I booked the Metvourt Suites for 3 nights for tge 1st time in 2 years. It was like feeding a hungry lion with R200 notes. R12 000 in 2 nights. When I did get a bonus spin, it would give me back R10 after spending R600 in that machine. Shocking really. That’s not gambling. That’s not the house always wins. THAT IS DAYLIGHT ROBBERY. It’s not sour grapes after I lost but I didn’t stand a chance from the day I got there. The place is practically deserted on news years weekend. NEVER NEVER AGAIN. THANK YOU AND GOODBYE EMPERORS CASINO. There are better payouts in other casinos. We chose to spend our Christmas Day at Emperors Palace and attend the Christmas Village, expecting a festive and enjoyable family experience. Unfortunately, what we encountered was a complete and absolute disappointment. From the moment we arrived, the level of overcrowding was overwhelming in the parking areas, throughout Emperors Palace, and in all public spaces. The congestion was so severe that at times it was impossible to walk freely through the passages. Frankly, the lack of crowd control felt dangerous. Had there been an emergency, such as a fire, the consequences could have been catastrophic due to the sheer density of people. The biggest let-down was the Christmas Village itself. We had been looking forward to it based on a previous experience with the outdoor Christmas lights, which allowed visitors to walk through a garden-style display. This was nothing like that. The area was again severely overcrowded, with people pushing, stopping abruptly, and blocking walkways. What was advertised as a Christmas Village amounted to very limited decorations, with no real flow, atmosphere, or sense of occasion. It became so unpleasant that we simply rushed through it, trying to find the exits as quickly as possible. Because we exited early, we arrived over an hour early for our dinner reservation at Tribes, only to be told that they could not accommodate us at all. Due to the overcrowding, there was nowhere to sit or wait anywhere in Emperors Palace, and we ultimately had to sit in our car in the parking lot for over an hour. Dinner at Tribes, when it finally happened, was very average and certainly not worth the price, the wait, or the stress of the day. Another concerning observation was that parking areas, fountains, pavements, stairs, and grassed areas had effectively turned into picnic spots, with people sitting and eating everywhere. As a result, rubbish was left scattered throughout these areas, adding to the overall sense of chaos and poor management. The worst part of the day and the worst possible way to end Christmas was trying to leave. From the moment we got into our car until we finally exited Emperors Palace took 90 minutes. There was no visible traffic management, no assistance, and no attempt by Emperors Palace to address or ease the congestion for hours. What makes this experience truly disappointing is that we genuinely expected a magical Christmas Day. Instead, it turned into a stressful and exhausting nightmare. It is deeply sad to see what was once a place we regarded as a great destination deteriorate into what feels like an overcrowded, poorly managed venue focused solely on volume rather than visitor experience. Our honest advice is that if you are planning something special on a public holiday, avoid Emperors Palace and rather invest your time and money in a place that prioritises experience and safety over sheer numbers. Around 11 PM, my husband realized he had forgotten his cellphone. We immediately went to the MVG desk, who quickly contacted security. We were assisted by Cedric and the surveillance team, who took immediate action to help us. Unfortunately, the Find My Phone app showed the device was no longer on the premises. Disappointed and frustrated, we left and returned home, where we had to call our banks to disable the banking apps on the phone. But Cedric and the surveillance team did not give up. They kept checking the camera footage even after we had left. To our amazement, at 6:00 AM, Cedric called us to say they had recovered the phone! Thanks to their dedication and excellent surveillance work, they were able to track down and apprehend the person who had taken it. We are beyond grateful for their persistence, professionalism, and care. Thank you, Cedric and the entire Emperors Palace Surveillance Team, for going above and beyond to look after your guests. Very seldom does one experience business people at a conference or business – compliment and rave about the food – but the offerings were so good that this is exactly what happened. Emperor’s Palace were also so on point with regards to ensuring the presentations worked well with over-the-top attention to detail and managing of roving mics etc. The effort the Emperor’s team went to, covering for things we left out, but making sure everything went smoothly was really appreciated. It’s a huge place and like five things in one. The casino is a decent size, we did not gamble, its in the local currency. The shuttle was a little hard to find to get back, but just ask around.
