The penguin exhibit was one of the best in my opinion with penguins of different origins strolling on land & jumping into waters to enjoy a swim. All the exhibits can be covered in about 90minutes. You could touch the star fishes & the jelly-fishes at one place in the aquarium & the penguins were made to parade at one point on the visitor walkway. These were things that did not feel right or ethical. You are led very nicely through, and have time to consider each area before taking in the next. Unsurprisingly, the aquarium specialises in local species, and does so very well indeed. The kelp forest area and cold coral area both reminded us of “real” places we have seen on our holiday round South Africa. We saw several species of fish that we have not seen in other aquaria we have visited, which is always a treat! It’s the first time I have actually managed to see an octopus, too! But my favourite areas were the jellyfish and, unsurprisingly, the final shark tank. Seeing sharks, Penguins, etc, we would probably not be able to see in their natural habitat, is really eye-opening. Was an experience of a lifetime for my son, that could see penguins up close. Could definitely tick this off his bucket list Read more Review of: Two Oceans Aquarium Visited May 2025 Traveled with family Written September 25, 2025 Cris H Brisbane, Australia 1,177 contributions 3 of 5 bubbles This aquarium is pretty on par with most others you will see around the world. The stand out here is the shark tank where there are so many different types of shark in the tank and you can really get close to them to see the scale. It’s also got a lovely penguin exhibit that is open so you feel more intimate in the experience. It’s got steps throughout and while there are lift there are some areas that are not accessible if you have mobility needs. It’s an ok way to spend an hour or two but not something I would go out of my way to visit Read more Review of: Two Oceans Aquarium Visited May 2025 Traveled solo Written May 24, 2025 Julie S Margate, United Kingdom 641 contributions 4 of 5 bubbles We arrived in Cape Town the day before,so on our first full day we got a taxi organised by the hotel to go to the V & A Victoria and Alfred. We went to the Aquarium as I’d heard a lot about it back in the UK.It wasn’t expensive to go In and they stamped your hand so you can come and go.It was very educational and interesting for adults as well as children. There were many tanks ranging in different sizes. And the same with the fish, they came in all different sizes shapes and colours. But they also had penguins as well. There are numerous tanks full of “rare” fish (or at least they seem to be in the eyes of Europeans accustomed to a fish fauna of an entirely different species). Jellyfish, hippocampuses, penguins, sharks and rare cockles near the tanks where newborn lobsters grow. Beautiful and fun for young and old. Apr 2026 Having visited Sydney Australia, Bangkok Thailand and Loch Lomond Scotland aquariums in the past, we were extremely disappointed by the condition and environments that the animals at Two Oceans aquarium in Cape town are living in. With a Zoology degree and as a Biology specialist subject teacher, over the years I have encountered a variety of animal experiences but none as worryingly as the conditions here, where the public are being charged fair rates which we assume are input into the upkeep of the aquarium. Tanks do not look clean, many are overcrowded. Touching the animals at the sensory pool is done without hands being cleaned before/after. The shark exhibition.had the best information but, unfortunately, from an education perspective, this was not replicated at the other zones. The penguin section smelled so bad (even for penguins), and the birds seemed very disinterested/active in their captivity. We understand there is a new enclosure being built for them but, really, the whole set-up needs an overhaul/maintenance and updatefor all of the animals that live here. The “story” given about the clown fish habitat and anemones does not quite ring true and left us feeling very uncomfortable. Please continue to raise questions and be curious about what you see and how it makes you feel if choosing to visit this “attraction” when in Cape Town.
