Learn more About Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best 2025 The riad-museum Le Jardin Secret is one of the largest and most ancient palaces of the medina of Marrakech. It is a place that has kept ancient structures intact that are of an extraordinary cultural value, linked to the art of gardens, architecture and Arab hydraulics. Popularly known as Riad Loukrissi, it has been the sumptuous residence of the Qaid U-Bihi who was the head of the Haha tribe. The riad rises up in the Mouassine quarter (on the main thoroughfare and but a few steps away from the Mouassine fountain and Mouassine Mosque), and comprises two large gardens and one of the highest towers of the medina. The museum provides you with a wealth of historical information about Marrakech’s architecture, water, and gardens. You will also find a boutique, a bookshop and two cafes inside Le Jardin Secret. See what travelers are saying Learn more Life traveller North East England, United Kingdom 3,990 contributions 4 of 5 bubbles We visited in the middle of a private walking tour, so around mid day when this beautiful, fairly small garden was jam packed with tourists (like us!). We still enjoyed our time though, as the history of the garden is so interesting, the architecture so impressive and the exotic and Islamic gardens so well established and lush. There are two cafes, including one on the roof terrace which provides a good aerial view. Even when crowded, you can wait for the crowds to move and get shots with few or no people around. The 100 MAD entrance fee is good value for up to a couple of hours of respite from the Medina’s and Souk’s narrow and packed streets, and is a Must See in Marrakesch. I would think visiting earlier in the morning would be wise! Opening hours begin at 9.30. Read more Review of: Le Jardin Secret Visited May 2025 Traveled with family Written May 20, 2025 Denis R 342 contributions 5 of 5 bubbles If the price of admission seems disproportionate (100 mad) this garden is more intimate especially if you come to the opening (9:30). If you have to make a choice with another attraction, prefer the nearby Musée des Confluences. The pieces of water and vegetation of two Riads that have been reunited offer a coherent and peaceful whole despite the crowds in high season. The presentation of the principles of water circulation and garden irrigation is very informative. Do not hesitate to drink on the terrace with a view of the garden. The fastest will travel the site in 30 minutes, those who stroll will spend a good hour there. To be followed by the Confluence Museum in the morning. I recommend visiting this garden if you absolutely want to stay in the Medina or during a short stay with everything nearby. Read more Review of: Le Jardin Secret Visited April 2025 Traveled with family Written April 26, 2025 pedrobamon Chiclana de la Frontera, Spain 1,846 contributions 4 of 5 bubbles A small but flirty garden in the middle of the Medina that has been restored about 10 years ago as it was completely abandoned. In fact there is a small room at the back of the garden where a video explaining the restoration work I recommend to see is projected to appreciate all the work done. In addition to the visit of the garden, you can climb a tower located at one of the ends of the garden from which you have good views of the city. At an intermediate height it has a terrace where you can have a refreshment. Admission costs 100 dirhams, and the visit lasts between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on how fast you want to go. It is worth it, especially because it is very relaxing amid the bustle of the Medina. Read more Review of: Le Jardin Secret Visited October 2025 Traveled as a couple Written October 13, 2025 Julien B 4 contributions 5 of 5 bubbles A place that would not be suspected of existing in the heart of Marrakech. The garden is separated into 2 riads, the first smaller but the second is huge. The place is a real haven of peace, quiet, refreshing and culturally interesting. Here you will learn a number of things about the art of the Khettara, Moroccan underground engineering system for irrigation of gardens and the city when running water did not exist. In the summer, I suggest going there early enough in the morning before there are too many people to enjoy the tranquility and freshness. Our children, ages 2, 5 and 6, enjoyed it and enjoyed the cultural aspect of the place. I would say without hesitation that this is a must visit of the Medina of Marrakech! Read more Review of: Le Jardin Secret Visited July 2025 Traveled with family Written July 26, 2025 Tom&NikkiTravel London, United Kingdom 2,164 contributions 5 of 5 bubbles We came here fairly early in the morning to beat any crowds, there’s a small charge to enter, and they have a café and toilets inside. The garden offers a bit of peace and tranquillity in the centre of the madness of the nearby souks. Upon entering it doesn’t appear to be much of a garden but as you venture further in it has so much more to offer. Its very well maintained and there are many different varieties of plants and trees. If you have a bit of free time an hour would probably be sufficient to walk around. Read more Review of: Le Jardin Secret Visited February 2025 Traveled as a couple Written April 26, 2025 brianna e 2 contributions 5 of 5 bubbles Le Jardin Secret was such a lovely surprise in the middle of the medina. Once you step inside, you leave behind all the hustle and noise of the souks and find yourself in a calm, peaceful space. The gardens are beautifully maintained, with a mix of exotic plants, fountains, and traditional Moroccan architecture that makes the whole place feel magical. There’s also a small exhibition explaining the history and the restoration of the garden, which made the visit even more interesting. We went up to the tower for a panoramic view of the medina, and it was absolutely worth it.A perfect place to relax, take in the beauty of Moroccan design, and enjoy some quiet moments in Marrakech. Read more Review of: Le Jardin Secret Visited September 2025 Traveled with friends Written September 26, 2025 TomSykes Holmfirth, United Kingdom 40 contributions 3 of 5 bubbles Worth a visit to get some time away from the noise and dirt of the Souks where vendors are selling the same old same old at silly prices. The garden was rebuilt about ten years ago and it is a delight. As the rest of Marrakesh is dirt, scruffy and neglected it was a nice surprise. This recreation of an Islamic garden of paradise was initiated, designed and delivered by Italians and Englishmen. Read more Review of: Le Jardin Secret Visited June 2025 Traveled solo Written June 4, 2025 Nick Cornwall, United Kingdom 72 contributions 5 of 5 bubbles Lovely place to learn about the origin of the concept of ‘riad’ (garden) and the history of Marrakech. And for a great 360-degree panoramic view across the whole of the old city. The garden is not very large but it is a quiet oasis of calm with quite a lot of seating where you can sit under the shade of large leafy plants and enjoy a mindful moment. Definitely worth paying a little extra for a guided tour to the top of the tower. The view allows you to get your bearings and understand the layout of the city. And our guide shared loads of genuinely interesting history that brought to life many insights into the origin and culture of Marrakech. There is also a very pleasant rooftop cafe with nice views over the garden and large parasols for shade if the sun is hot. Read more Review of: Le Jardin Secret Visited February 2025 Traveled as a couple Written February 28, 2025 Bethany B 31 contributions 4 of 5 bubbles A very nice reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the medina, this beautiful oasis is not the most amazing thing we saw during our trip to Morocco, but my sister and I would still recommend taking a stroll through this objectively lovely and well-maintained space. There was a good amount of signage that helped us learn more about the history and layout of traditional riads—the architecture was as much a part of the visit as the myriad of plants from multiple continents. It was fairly crowded on a Saturday afternoon, but I didn’t feel this took away from the experience. We were still able to find seating for taking in the views and people watching, and the atmosphere remained peaceful. A quick, inexpensive stop and easy to find once you become acquainted with the medina. Read more Review of: Le Jardin Secret Visited February 2025 Traveled with family Written February 15, 2025 sylvia l London, United Kingdom 1 contribution 5 of 5 bubbles Le Jardin Secret truly lives up to its name—it felt like discovering a peaceful sanctuary right in the middle of the bustling Marrakech medina. As soon as I walked through the gates, everything slowed down. The noise of the city faded, replaced by birdsong, fountains, and the calming beauty of the gardens. The space is incredibly well-designed, blending traditional Moroccan architecture with lush greenery. Each corner feels thoughtfully curated, from the geometric layout of the Andalusian garden to the more wild and exotic sections. I especially appreciated learning about the ancient water system and the restoration efforts—it gave the visit a deeper meaning. The rooftop café was the cherry on top. Sitting there with a tea, overlooking the garden and rooftops of Marrakech, felt like pure serenity. If you’re visiting Marrakech and need a moment to breathe, reflect, or just enjoy nature and beauty, don’t miss this place. Le Jardin Secret isn’t just a garden—it’s an experience. Entry is 100dh (no need to book in advance) and goes towards the ongoing maintenance. Has a nice exhibition on the regeneration of the gardens and a decent little cafe. Take some time to enjoy the shops in the area which are larger and less crazy than the main souks. The irrigation system is unique but do mind your footing, we saw a couple of people get wet feet! Its the standard 100 Dm price for entry and then an extra 40 Dm to go up the tower, really should be included in the main entrance fee in our view so we didn’t bother. Glen P Lincoln, UK 44 contributions 1 5 of 5 bubbles Beautiful Oct 2025 • Solo A beautiful garden and riad with a fascinating history. The plants, flowers, and shrubs were many and varied. The architecture is stunning, the irrigation system a wonder. The extra 40 dnh for the tower is worth it, too. Got there as it opened at 9.30 after reading the reviews of overcrowding. Had a quick walk around taking great photos before making my way to the back terrace for the first tower tour of the day at 10am. Guide was amazing. Gave an interesting and unhurried tour in both French and English to a small group of 6 or 7 people. Once that was done, I went to the cafe on the terrace for a refreshing drink and fresh fruit salad. Then, I returned to view everything at a very sedate pace. It was busy by then, but it didn’t stop me from enjoying the peace and tranquillity. I eventually decided to sit on a bench in one of the little side gardens. My plan was to sit until I was bored. Sat there for over 2 hours soaking it all in! Well worth a visit. Read more Written October 29, 2025 This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The essences are splendid and small spaces of contemplation are available to visitors to admire the fountains and lush vegetation. A wonderful quiet moment for the pleasure of the eyes. It looks like a typical stop on all the tours so it was crowded! Read more Written October 27, 2025 This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Oct 2025 • Couples It’s a lovely place, it was my husband and I first thing in the morning and no queuing problems. It is wonderful to walk in this garden, better than Majorelle because it is far away and the workers are very rude here super friendly and professional, in addition in the center of the Medina. You can have tea on the terrace. Read more Automatically translated Written October 25, 2025 This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The café is nice for a drink. That said, it is far from “secret” – it can get quite busy, which diminishes the sense of peace and tranquillity. Still worth a visit if you are exploring the medina, but best prepared for crowds. Start from the left side of square and head up Souk Laksour and then turn right, then left onto Rue Mouassine and you’ll see Le Jardins Secret on the left (big sign). By Mark Sullivan 4 perfect days in Marrakech Jun 29, 2025 • 10 min read My best advice for anyone just getting to know Marrakech: Take it slow. You’ll appreciate the sights and smells of Medina—the sprawling market where you’ll probably spend most of your time—more by wandering down a few of the twisting alleyways than you will by power-walking your way from one end to the other. Whenever I feel myself picking up the pace, I know it’s time to seek out a bench in one of the hidden gardens or grab a table in one of the rooftop restaurants that overlook the vendors in the main square. That gives me a chance to relax, regroup, and actually enjoy this mesmerizing ancient city.
