Additionally, it was disappointing that the children had to pay to take part in the Easter egg hunt. The only free hunt was held all the way at the Valley of the Waves, which made it less accessible and convenient for families staying at the Cabanas.We are already planning to return for Easter next year, but we sincerely hope that Beacon will once again be a sponsor and that the big Easter setup will return to the grass area at the Cabanas, as it has been in the past. Big Birthday but she is not the camping type so a friend recommended Sun City.This place is amazing with multiple types of accommodation The Palace was out of our price range but the Cabanas was perfect, we had a lakeside room and the noise from the wildlife was amazingAccommodation: spotless and cleaned daily and little touches like tea coffee and drinking water was unexpected as we were B+B only .Pool: we used a few different ones and all are a good size and set in a large garden with lots of loungers and free to use pool towels. @CABANAS maybe heat the pool in the winter pleaseStaff: with the odd exception all staff where very helpful respectful and politeFood and Bars: amazing all if them we ate at the Palace Grill Room, Chinese Indian. They do not properly clean the rooms! Upon check in and after going to my to my room I found that someone had urinated and left urine in my toilet. Whoever it was the housekeepers did not even take the time out to clean it! Then I spoke to the manager on duty who was the worst. He puts me in a smaller room saying but I put you by the lake! I could have cared less about the lake! The new room he put me in, I no longer had room for my luggage, there was no chair and the bathroom was as small as the entrance door! I was totally disappointed about Sun City and I wished they cared more about the customer service of their clients! But to also not make sure the rooms were clean for their guests was horrible! It’s filthy, showers are leaking and toilets are dirty and not to mention that the floors are chipped and looks like it has not been cleaned for years! We asked the accommodation manager to change our room only to end up in a worse room with no shower pressure. I wasted my money and I absolutely hate my experience here. I cannot wait to go home!!! The room was OK, but the air conditioning was designed too weak, so you could not reach a tolerable temperature in the room Dust deposits were visible in some corners of the room. We were sold a golf package with 4 x 18 holes. However, the Lost City course in particular was fully booked 3 weeks in advance. There was no way to play the 4 x 18 holes. When we complained about it, the local hotel manager promised us that he would take care of the problem. Unfortunately, he has not kept his promise. We were disappointed by Sun City and will not visit this resort again. I have stayed in all the hotels. Our last visit was shocking at the Sun City Hotel during Jan 2025 – the overall decline and deteriorisation in how everything looks, what’s on offer and the general lack of service is very sad to see and experience. What is even more shocking is the cost versus what you get for it! R14K per night at the Cascades; R20K per night at the Palace -seriously?? What is all the money used for? Certainly not to employ more staff to assist guests or to replace the 1980s brown and orange carpets. Or for that matter – to have more elevators which work! We ended up using the stairs every time, which look like they are from a horror movie. Why is the sky train still not working? It was built to provide easy transport in the resort to guests whilst providing a view of the scenery. Certainly using shuttles and busses (and using petrol/diesel which pollute) cannot be better? Why is the crocodile farm still closed? Why are the ponds around the Cascades so dirty and they stink – and what happended to the black swans which stayed there? Why does the aviary only have pigeons, chickens and ducks? This is NOT the Sun City my family (especially my late father) and I have loved for decades. We will not be returning unless a LOT changes there – it really is a sad state of affairs and many people who stayed there while we were there agreed. It was a 2.5 hr drive from Sandton (where we were staying). There’s too much to do to list but we chose the Quad bike Safari,The Lost Maze and the outdoor escape room. There’s also a swimming book and water park (too cold for this time of the year) amongst many other activities. It’s a great day out and was worth the 2.5hr drive to get there and back. We arrived at 12 midday but probably should have tried to get there earlier. Recommended if you’re passing through Johannesburg. Entrance fee only R265 per person.
