Day 1 Menegasha National ForestUpon arrival, meet your guide and drive to your hotel to check in. Then, head to Menegasha National Forest, a magnificent natural forest near the capital.Explore the forest, which incorporates indigenous trees along with exotic plantations. Trek through the magical forest and spot wildlife such as colobus monkeys, Ethiopian bushbucks, olive baboons, common duikers, and endemic birds of the area.Then, drive back to the capital for an overnight stay in Addis Ababa.Day 2 Debre LibanosAfter pickup at your hotel in Addis Ababa, drive 100 km (68 miles) north, passing over undulating mountain ranges that shelter famous bleeding-heart baboons and various endemic birds.Arrive at the Debre Libanos Monastery complex, founded by Ethiopian saint Abune Taklehamanot in 1284. Experience breathtaking views of the Blue Nile Gorge, often compared with Arizona’s Grand Canyon. Admire the Portuguese Bridge, built by Ras Darge in the 1890s in the classic Portuguese style.Enjoy the scenic views, interact with local people, and trek to the Saint Teklehamenot Cave Church. In the late afternoon, return to Addis Ababa for an overnight stay at the same hotel.Day 3 Wenchi Crater LakeTake a trip to Wenchi Crater Lake, 155 km west of Addis Ababa, between Ambo and Waliso. An extinct volcano, the top of Wenchi is 3,380 meters above sea level, and the crater contains a large lake, hot mineral springs, a waterfall, a beautiful valley, and farmland.Visit an old monastery with a church situated on one of the lake’s islands. Start your morning by driving west of Addis Ababa. After paying the entrance and guide fee, drive uphill for a kilometer to reach the departure point.Choose between a 4 km hike to the lakeshore or a horseback ride. The downhill trek is full of varied greens on the hillsides and the lake surface. After an hour and a couple of villages, a field opens to the shore and small areas. Return to Addis Ababa and discover the city.
