Day 1 Addis Ababa to Kombolcha/DessieDepart Addis early in the morning to maximize daylight. Take the route via Dessie/Mekele road (Awash–Debre Sina–Mersa). Stop for coffee and stretching at Debre Sina or at hilltop viewpoints en route.Arrive in Kombolcha or Dessie in the mid-afternoon. Check in to your hotel in Dessie or Kombolcha. Take a short city walk in Dessie to visit the central market area, main squares, and some local churches and mosques. Have dinner at your hotel or a local restaurant and rest. Get a local SIM/phone balance if needed.Day 2 Dessie City and Dessie Museum, AmbasselVisit Dessie Museum, which has been newly renovated. Spend 1–1.5 hours learning about local history and seeing restituted artifacts. Walk around the historic parts of Dessie and visit nearby churches (ask a local guide for opening times).Have lunch in Dessie and try local injera with wot and tibs. In the afternoon, drive to Ambassel and the surrounding highlands for scenic viewpoints and short hikes (1–3 hours depending on the chosen route). Optionally, visit the Mekane Selam area en route to see ancient-style pillars (if accessible) and learn about early Amhara history. Return to Dessie for dinner and overnight.Day 3 Day Trip to Lake Hayq and Logo Hayk Resort. Hayq St. Stephen MonasteryDrive to Lake Hayq (about 1–1.5 hours from Dessie). Visit the historic Hayq St. Stephen Monastery, reachable by boat or a short walk (check opening/visiting rules, as it may require permission from monastery authorities).Have lunch at Logo Hayk Resort or nearby lakeshore eateries. Bati is about 2.5–3 hours from Dessie. Explore the market, which features livestock trading, colorful stalls, and cultural exchanges between Afar, Oromo, and Amhara peoples. This is a great opportunity for photography and experiencing regional commerce.Have lunch in Bati town and try local street foods and snacks. Return toward Dessie, stopping at smaller villages or scenery viewpoints. Alternatively, visit the nearby Tenta area or Mekdella site if you prefer an afternoon trek. Overnight in Dessie or Kombolcha.Day 5 Mekdella Fortress (Tenta) Trek and Return to AddisDepart early to the Mekdella/Tenta region (approx. 1–2 hours depending on the exact start point). Trek or optionally hire a mule to reach the Mekdella fortress site, a historic site associated with Emperor Tewodros II. Expect a moderately strenuous hike up rocky slopes. bring water, good shoes, and sun protection.Begin the drive back to Addis. Arrive Addis late evening. End of Tour.
