Bob L 5 contributions 0 3 of 5 bubbles Interesting Architecture, Crowded Palace Apr 2026 • Friends The Bahia Palace was nice to see, but didn’t live up to expectations. We toured it on our own, without a guide, so factoring that in. There are a lot of rooms to explore, but without signs or museum-style writeups we couldn’t glean much about them (picture small bare rooms, with a fireplace and ornate ceiling, but nothing else on the walls or nearby to describe how they were used/who used them). Maybe having a tour guide is the solve for this? Also very crowded at 10:30am – suggest going at opening or late afternoon. Lots of the palace is under construction (assuming fixing damage from the 2023 earthquake), but the parts that are open don’t live up to the billing of an extravagant palace. AdventureMN95 Minneapolis, Minnesota 457 contributions 0 5 of 5 bubbles Come early Apr 2026 This place showcases a variety of exquisite tile work and engravings that are truly masterpieces. It was also fascinating to learn about the history of the rooms and how each one was added or transformed over time. Be sure to come early, as it can get quite crowded! Valeriano Seveso, Italy 2,817 contributions 0 4 of 5 bubbles Charming also in renovation, with very interesting guide Apr 2026 • Couples The building is currently partially under renovation following the damage caused by the recent earthquake. Despite this, the visitable part is still really remarkable. Very interesting is also the narration of the guide, which helps to contextualize the visit. The palace was dedicated to the most beautiful of the four wives (as well as 24 concubines), a detail that makes the history of the place even more fascinating. From an artistic point of view, the stuccoes and mosaics of the floors stand out, really well preserved and suggestive. Overall it is definitely worth a visit, even in the current situation, unlike what is reported in some less up-to-date reviews. Very busy place but a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of the Medina. Fabulous paintings, mosaics and gardens. Only downside was the ongoing improvements which meant some areas were closed off to the public. There are a lot of renovations going on in the Bahia palace at the moment which seriously compromise visits.
