Begin with a pickup from your hotel in Addis Ababa and drive to Debre Zeit (Bishoftu) via the Addis–Adama expressway. Stop at Lake Hora or Bishoftu Lake for a short walk around the crater lake. Enjoy birdwatching and take photos of the green volcanic lake and surrounding hills.Next, take a quick drive through Debre Zeit town center. See local market stalls, fresh fruit and vegetables, and traditional coffee shops. Then, visit a nearby Oromo village on the outskirts. Interact with a local household and learn about daily life, agriculture, and traditional homestead structures.Continue to an Areki-preparation village. Watch a live demo of how areki (homemade spirit) is prepared from injera-fermented mash. Learn about the fermentation process in clay pots and see a simple distillation setup. Hear stories about areki’s role in local celebrations, weddings, and coffee ceremonies.Next, enjoy a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony in the village or at a nearby lakeside café. Watch the roasting and grinding of green coffee, the burning of incense, and the serving of three rounds (Abol, Tona, Baraka).Transfer to a lakeside resort near Kuriftu or Babogaya and enjoy an Ethiopian set-menu lunch (injera with several wots) by the lake. After lunch, take a short walk or kayak on the lake (if time and budget allow).Drive to another crater lake (e.g., Babogaya or Green Lake) and take a light walk at the lakeside. Enjoy birdwatching and photography (herons, kingfishers, etc.). Finally, take an optional tea break at a lakeside lodge or café before returning to Addis Ababa.
