Day 01 Fly Addis Ababa – Semera and Drive to Ahmed EllaUpon arrival at Semera Airport, you will be met by your guide and drive to Ahmed Ella, passing through stunning landscapes of solidified lava, rocky plains, sand dunes, and occasional palm-fringed oases. Along the way, you’ll pass several small Afar villages before arriving at Ahmed Ella, home to over 500 people. Experience the traditional lifestyle of the Afar community and later continue to Lake Asale, a vast salt lake. Here, you can take a dip in the natural salt pool and enjoy the magnificent sunset reflections across the salt flats.Overnight Camping at Ahmed EllaDay 02 Visit Dallol and Drive to Erta AleIn the morning, drive to Ragad (Asebo) to observe the local salt mining activities, where workers extract, cut, and load salt blocks onto camel caravans. Continue to Dallol, one of the lowest points on Earth (125 meters below sea level), famous for its surreal volcanic landscapes, colorful salt formations, and bubbling hot springs. After lunch in Ahmed Ella, proceed to Erta Ale, a shield volcano renowned for its permanent lava lake — one of only a few in the world. At 613 meters high, Erta Ale offers a dramatic nighttime experience as you witness the mesmerizing glow of molten lava.Overnight Camping at Erta AleDay 03 Drive Erta Ale – MekelleEarly in the morning, depart from Erta Ale and drive to Mekelle. Along the way, visit one of Tigray’s remarkable 5th-century rock-hewn churches, carved into a cliff and accessible only via a steep ascent. The church is known for its vibrant ancient murals, an old goat-skin Bible, and its continued use as an active place of worship within the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.Overnight HawzienDay 04 Hawzien – Axum – Addis AbabaDrive to Axum, the ancient capital of Ethiopia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit the famous Axum stelae field, the Queen of Sheba’s palace ruins, and other important archaeological landmarks. After lunch, transfer to the airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa.Overnight Check Inn Hotel, Addis AbabaDay 05 Fly to LalibelaTake an early morning flight to Lalibela, where you will be warmly welcomed and transferred to your hotel. After lunch, explore the awe-inspiring 11 rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, often called the “Eighth Wonder of the World,” carved directly into the rock in the 12th century.Overnight Lal HotelDay 06 Lalibela – Addis AbabaAfter breakfast, fly back to Addis Ababa.
